Another Vicious Circle

Americans aren't kidnapped nearly as much as other nationals because we don't pay ransoms. The more you pay to have a hostage released from captivity, the more incentive the kidnappers have to capture and hold for ransom more of the same folks in the future. Duh. Never pay off a kidnapper. It's irresponsible and perpetuates the cycle of kidnap, demand money for release, pay-outs, another kidnapping. Be smart. Kidnappers are dishonorable people. You cannot count on getting the prisoner back just because you gave the captors all the loot they asked for. It's common sense. I'm glad Americans are not permitted by law to ever pay ransoms. It's a shame that other nations do not institute this policy. It would help everyone if they did so.
